HISTORY OF SHIN BU KAN

The Shin Bu Kan was founded in Brighton England, in 1977 by Victor Cook Sensei
inorder to promote the martial arts of Iaido and Jodo on traditional lines.

Cook Sensei is now a 7th Dan Renshi in Iai-do for many Years now - one of only a very select and small number of Non-Japanese people to hold this most difficult to achieve and highly distinguished world ranking.
In Jodo Sensei holds a 5th Dan and hopefully in 2009 will achieve his 6th Dan status.
In Kendo, although he begun with this discipline first but not so regularly practiced now for some Years Sensei still attained  4th Dan status.

In addition to working tirelessly for 40 Years inorder to promote the martial arts of Iaido and Jodo and securing a high level of examination stardardisation within the UK and Europe in these disciplines, Cook Sensei has also spent the last eleven years teaching and helping establish Dojo’s in The Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Greece and Italy, as well as assisting senior Sensei’s in France, Germany and Holland.
Sensei is also an International Grading Examiner and Taikai (competition) Judge
for the British Kendo Association - an organisation he also helped to form some
40 Years some ago!

As well as teaching regular Classes and holding Seminars both in the UK as well as abroad Cook Sensei makes himself available to individual students or groups who require private tuition. Any individual or group wishing to take advantage of this facility should
contact our Sensei on his direct e.mail where arrangements can be made.

Iaido
‘Iaido’ –very loosley translated, means that wherever you are, whatever you are doing, you should always BE PREPARED.
Kendo being the way of the Sword and Iaido is the art of drawing the sword.
First developed as a means of gaining an advantage in combat over opponents before they could draw their sword.
Today, the object of Iaido is to develop one's mind, body and spirit, the emphasis being on developing the ability to remain calm and in control, especially when under pressure or facing a difficult situation.

More than linked subjectively with Kendo and Jodo,  Iaidoka (practitioners) are often multidisciplinary and hold well earned established grades in two or more subjects.
